Evia.Homecoming_Crowning.17Homecoming focuses around the pride students have in their school, and there was one particular thing the Maur Hill - Mount Academy Ravens had pride in this weekend – winning the homecoming game for the first time in eight years.  During the week of September 24, the Ravens got pumped up for Homecoming on the MHMA campus.

The theme of the 2012 Homecoming Week was the Olympic Games.  Each day of Spirit Week was inspired by the participating countries and the British people.  Each class was designated a certain country for the week.  The Seniors had Greece, the Juniors had Ireland, the Sophomores had Jamaica, and the Freshmen had Great Britain.  Every day had a specific theme for which the students could dress up.

The Fall Pep Rally was held Wednesday, September 26 at 7pm.  The Pep Club organized a couple fun games in which the students participated in between sports’ teams introductions.  The gym got a little messy when Jr. Shayna Gering, Sr. Sean Falk, Jr. Rj Vanhoozer, Sr. John Shankman, and Sr. Jacey Frakes slid around on a Twister board full of various food items in this interesting take of the family favorite game.  At the end of the pep rally the winners of the banners and hallway decorating were announced.  The classes worked hard hours upon hours decorating each hallway with their color (Senior Black, Junior Red, Sophomore Blue, Freshmen Yellow) and integrating the Olympic theme onto a large cloth painted banner.  Juniors were awarded first place for the hallway decorating, and Sophomores won the banner decorating contest.

The homecoming game took place on Friday, September 28th and welcomed all alumni to their alma mater.  MH-MA proudly cheered their Raven football team to a victory against the Doniphan West Mustangs.

The week was concluded with the Homecoming Dance in the gym the following day, along with a dance for the alumni. The theme for Homecoming Week was the Olympic Games, so the old gym was decorated with several country’s flags and banners.
