The 2012-2013 school year’s fall sports are off to a terrific start. The students here at Maur Hill - Mount Academy take great pride in their sports, and an even greater pride in winning. The soccer, volleyball, and football seasons started with confidence and continue to make their Ravens proud with hard-won victories!
The soccer team is playing strong with a 6:2 record for varsity with one tie. On Tuesday September 25, the team faced Benton at an away game and brought back a 3-0 victory for the Ravens.
“We are improving, and I think we’re finally getting over the MH-MA Soccer Syndrome,” says Coach Manuel Patino when asked about the varsity soccer team. “MH-MA Soccer Syndrome,” he explains, “describes the start of the school year. The beginning starts out slow because the players don’t know each other well. But now I think we are over that, and we can finally come together as a team.”
The volleyball players started off with a perfect season of 0 losses. Tuesday September 11 was the very first loss of the season for the girls, ending their undefeated streak. The team will play Atchison High on Monday October 1.
Every Raven is getting pumped up for the next football game this Friday night against Doniphan West for Homecoming. The football team's current record is 2:2. Football is a huge part of any high school, so the students are excited to cheer on their Ravens to bring home another victory!
